My prediction:

We’ll see fewer standalone Data Science teams. More data teams will become embedded in outcome-oriented “Product Squads”. Here’s what I mean.

Today’s Product Squads
– Engineering (Backend, Frontend)
– Product
– Design

Tomorrow’s Product Squads
– Engineering (Backend, Frontend)
– Product
– Design
– Data Science

The advantages:
– Less meetings, disconnects and dropped balls on projects
– More enjoyable, diverse team experience
– More frequent use of pragmatic ML solutions
– More integrated DS-Dev architectures
– More ML models seeing daylight in production
– Better overall solutions for users
